Trades
Each character will have a background: where they came from, their family, siblings, their father's profession. Initially, characters will most likely have been trained in their fathers profession as a helper, or been apprenticed to another trade. This will give the character certain rudimentary skills in a trade. Characters from wealthy backgrounds will be able to read and write but will not have a trade.The trade depends upon the race of the character:

The barbarians column only applies to those brought up in civilised socity. The advantages given by a trade are minimal, but they do enable the characters to perform some of the simple skills of the trade.
Armourer
Armourers may repair ring mail or light chain mail up to 3/4 the original value of the armour, provided it has not dropped below 1/4 of its original value. Each point requires 1 hours work and 50% of the normal repair cost in materials. A set of tools must be available.
Bowyer
Bowyers may construct arrows and bow strings if the materials are available. The correct tools and spare arrow heads must be carried.
Carpenter
If the carpenter has access to the correct tools he may construct crude objects. They will gain an additional +1 when searching for secret compartments in wooden objects.
Farmer
This gives the character the ability to milk cows, goats and identify crops. They will also have a skill of 1 in animal handling.
Fisher
This gives the character a skill of 1 in fishing.
Forester
This gives the character the ability to identify tree and bush types. Some poisonous plants will be known, but only those which grow within the wood that he grew up in.
Gambler
This gives the character a skill of 1 in gaming
Groom
This gives the character a skill of 1 in animal handling and 1 in beast riding (horse)
Hunter
This gives the character a skill of 1 in hunting
Jeweller
This gives the character a basic skill in appraising the value of jewellery and gems (roll vs. perception). The types of many gems when cut and polished will be known but not when just pulled from the ground.
Leather worker
Leather workers may repair leather or studded armour up to 3/4 the original value provided it has not dropped below 1/4 of its original value. Each point requires 1 hours work and 50% of normal repair cost in materials. A set of tools must be available.
Mason
This gives the character a skill of 1 in Detect new construction, the ability to cut basic square blocks and 1 skill point in detecting shifting stones.
Merchant
This gives the character the ability to appraise the approximate value of common goods. (Roll vs. Perception)
Miner
This gives the character basic knowledge about how mines operate, a skill of 1 in Detect new construction, detect slope direction of travel and detect shifting stones
Sailor
This gives the character rudimentary knowledge of large sailing ships and a skill of 1 in small craft
Scribe
This gives the character the ability to read and write simple words only.
Tailor
This gives the character to make basic appraisals about cloth and to repair small rips and tears caused by day to day wear, and to enhance the appearance of their clothes with sequins, beads...
Teamster
This gives the character a skill of 1 in animal handling and beast riding (horse)
Weaponsmith
This gives the character a basic appraisal ability on the value of weapons, together with the ability to repair broken handles.
